PBF urges Piedmont residents to vote YES on Measure GG
Dear Editor:
Piedmont Beautification Foundation (PBF) strongly urges all Piedmont residents to vote YES on Measure GG. During our September meeting, PBF Trustees and Advisors engaged in a thorough and thoughtful discussion regarding the City’s financial future. Former Mayor Bob McBain, current Chair of the Budget Advisory and Financial Planning Committee (BAFPC), and Mayor Betsy Andersen joined us and provided essential insights into the proposal. Several local realtors also contributed their perspectives, ensuring a well-rounded conversation on the measure. Following this discussion, our Trustees voted unanimously to endorse this modest, necessary increase in the City’s Real Property Transfer Tax.
PBF was founded during a period when the City’s resources were significantly constrained, and we recognize that the City Council must always prioritize public safety and emergency services. Unfortunately, when budgets are tight, “quality of life” projects are often the first to be underfunded or deferred. The BAFPC has been transparent: Piedmont faces a long-term gap between the costs of maintaining our current infrastructure and available revenue. Without action, the outlook for these vital community programs remains bleak.
The proposed increase to the Transfer Tax is a responsible, forward-thinking solution. This is a one-time assessment collected only upon the sale or transfer of property. Even with this adjustment, Piedmont’s rates will remain lower than those of our neighboring cities. Please join PBF in voting YES on Measure GG to help preserve the community we love.
Sincerely,
– Patty Dunlap
President, PBF
